Debra Fisher currently serves as the Region 4 Director for East and West Kootenay. She is the minister of Children & Families and Minister of Education (Early Learning/K-12). In addition, she is member of the Housing, People & Culture (HR), and Credit Union Exploratory committees. She continues to serve on the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Children & Family Service Society and Interior Health Leadership Table. She also completed her on the Plain Site Provincial Task Force and founding board of the Amelia Douglas Institute.
Debra, born and raised in Invermere, comes from a lineage with deep historical Métis roots in the Red River and Saskatchewan regions, associated with family names such as Bourassa, Boyer, Piché, Ouellette, Dumont, and Ross. She and her husband, Ken, have been married for 47 years and are proud parents of three adult children and grandchildren. Over the years, they have generously opened their home to over 35 children through foster care, respite care, and by hosting international and Rotary exchange students.
